Jungle Safari themed diaper cake for fraternal twins

Twins Safari Diaper CakeI had the great pleasure, on this beautiful Saturday morning here in the South, of attending a baby shower for a mom-to-be who is expecting fraternal twins. Since mom and dad don’t know the genders of the babies, I got to do a twins cake that was completely neutral. I love fun, bright colors for babies and but don’t often get requests for them. A bright and beautiful diaper cake with lots of orange, yellow, green and brown was a nice change of pace. I love the way it turned out and am sure the the babies on the way will go through all 120 diapers before mom and dad know it.

We could offer this cake as a standard offering on the website if you folks would be interested…what do you think?

Baby shower themes for February

Winter is in full swing and if you live in the deep South like I do, that means something completely different than it does up North. Down here, we run to the windows at the first whisper of snowflakes and everyone drops what they are doing. School is cancelled and people clean out the grocery stores. It’s pretty comical. We had a white Christmas a couple of years back and it was front page news in every paper! Temperatures seldom drop below the 40s and it’s not uncommon at all for 60 degree days to happen in February. We are already seeing daffodils and crocuses push their way toward the sunshine. Winter has barely arrived before Spring is just around the corner.

If you live up North, February means Winter is getting old. There has been snow on the ground for months and the icy wind, car window scraping, slushy puddles of muck, and messy commutes to work are taking their toll. Stepping outside for just a minute to take the trash out means bundling up in layers, and running errands with children is a nightmare. If you leave your drink in your car, it’s frozen when you get back. The kids can’t play outside for more than a few minutes, and everyone is starting to get cabin fever. When Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow everyone sighs in disgust and plots his death…Spring can’t come soon enough.

If you are planning a February baby shower, you might be just fine with embracing the Winter – or you might be more inclined to try to usher in an early Spring! Here are two beautiful and fun ideas for February baby shower themes – whether you’re still squealing with joy over a tiny dusting of snow, or moaning with despair at the 16 degree wind chill.

Grey and White Winter Baby Shower

Grey and white baby shower for winter

Living in the South, I confess that I wish for a bit more snow and love snowflakes and snowmen. A February baby shower decorated with grey, white, and snowflakes is lovely and versatile – add a bit of blue for a boy, or a bit of pink for a girl. Use yellow if mom and dad don’t know the gender of their baby on the way.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow Baby Shower theme

Rainbow Garland of Balloons

“Somewhere over the rainbow…the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true.” Babies are dreams come true. Why not celebrate the impending arrival of a long-anticipated baby with an Over the Rainbow baby shower theme? The possibilities for decorations with this theme are endless, and it is appropriate whether mom and dad are expecting a boy, a girl, or a surprise! Who doesn’t need a little more sunshine and rainbows at the end of February? I bet our friends in New England who got 2 feet of snow this week could use some.

Happy New Years Baby Shower Themes

Happy New Year! January is the month where there is lots of baby shower catch-up. Since the Christmas season is so very busy for most people, those who are pregnant and would normally be thrown a baby shower during the month of December are frequently put off until the new year. A new baby goes perfectly with a new year, don’t you think? We do. Here are two New Years baby shower ideas that are gorgeous and original, sure to please the mom-to-be and delight your guests as well.

New Years Baby Shower Theme

New Years Baby 2013

The traditional symbol of the New Year (in America) is a baby…how perfectly does that flow into this adorable New Year’s baby shower theme? The original blog post over at Whimsically Detailed was intended for a New Year’s Eve baby shower, but would make the perfect New Year’s Baby shower theme as well, with almost no changes at all!

New Years Eve Pink and Silver Baby Shower Decorations

New Years Baby Celebration 2013

Loving the silver glitter and high-glam celebration mood of these lovely decorations. This could easily be adapted for a baby boy by simply using blue instead of pink.

Chinese New Year, New Baby Celebration

With endless red and gold decorations lying around from Christmas, what could be easier than transitioning into a red and gold Chinese New Year baby shower celebration? This baby shower was originally posted by HWTM and celebrated twin baby girls born in China and adopted by a family in the US.

We absolutely love the nontraditional and original. Who says your baby shower has to be rubber ducky themed?? The Chinese Zodiac celebrates a specific animal each year…which could also be incorporated into the decorations. The year of the rabbit, or the year of the monkey would be easy to pull into the celebration. This year (2013) is the year of the snake. You’d have to get a bit more creative with that one. ;)

Adorable Baby ‘Shower’ Theme

We are head-over-heels in love with this adorable ‘Baby Shower’ theme. The puffy white clouds, the tiny raindrops, the soft dreamy colors…*sigh.*

White pom-poms as clouds, with tiny rain drops falling down.

baby shower mason jars with clouds and raindrops

Cloud cut-outs with a hole punched through to adorn the straws in tall mason jars.

baby shower cupcakes with clouds

The cupcakes are my favorite – with raindrops sprinkles and more cloud cutouts, I could die from the sweetness.

baby shower raindrops favors

An umbrella cut-out for the pencil, and favors that say, “Thanks for dropping by.” This theme would work for a boy or a girl and is just beautiful. Check out the original post over at Fiskars for how-tos and more information.

I’ve been designing a diaper cake for this baby shower theme in my head all morning. What else would you add to this baby shower?
